Construction Suggestions

• Site Prep is the same as standard slab on grade construction techniques. 
• Footer is constructed to match the footprint of the Dome.  It should be at least 2 feet deep and 1 foot wide.  Check your local building codes for proper depth. All electrical, plumbing and drainage service lines should be introduced into the inside of the ring at this time also. The top of footer should be level with the ground when complete, if not, add enough core sand to bring it up to the top of footer and insure that it is level across the entire floor area.
• Erect the structure by placing a dormer panel on one end of the building into place. This can be done either by crane or by hand with 2 or 3 people.  Support for the top of this panel is providing by placing a scaffold, ladder, or other type support 10’ 3”s from the base of this panel directly under the corners of the panel.  These supports should be adjusted to a height of 10’ 1” and should provide enough surface area for other panels to rest on them, approximately 4 inches by 4 inches should be sufficient.  Place one of the wedge panels along side the dormer with the point resting on the support and begin putting bolts in at the top working and working toward the bottom.  Do not tighten the bolts until all panels are up.  Use Phillips head screwdrivers or equivalent to assist in aligning the holes.  The top insert panels, as well as the 16' expansion panels are typically not drilled at the factory, align the outside of the panel seams to the same height, drill the holes and insert the bolts, one side at a time.  Continue in this fashion until the last panel is erected, at this point all bolts can be tightened.  3/8” x 3” Wedge Anchor bolts are used to secure the structure to the footer.  4 to 5 bolts are equally spaced around the flange of the panel for this purpose.
• Seal the structure by cleaning the seams, with acetone or equivalent and then applying a 3/8” wide bead of sealant into each seam of the structure.  Follow up with a second bead after 1 to 2 days.  Again insure that the seams are clean, this is critical to prevent leaks.
• Interior floor is standard slab on grade construction.  After electrical, plumbing and drainage is finished, 4 inches of concrete is poured into the structure to form the floor.  The 4-inch depth is critical to insure that the doors swing properly.
• Doors and windows can be installed at this time.  Insure that the bubble widows fit into the cut-out before laying them in a bead of caulking and then a bead on the outside.  They may require sanding the edges to fit into the hole.

·        Partition walls can be installed at this time. Again this is standard construction techniques.  2” x 4”s are notched at the top to fit over the panel flanges.

• Finish the interior with the flange covers provided after all walls, electrical conduit wires for lights, plumbing lines and ceiling fans are installed.  Use a saws-all to miter the covers for a nice fit at the top.  Caulking is used to trim the flange covers and sheet rock into the panels.  Drill pilot holes into the panels for installing the flange covers. Use 3/4" Pan-Head Sheet Metal Screws.  Also, use paintable caulking to paint over after you're finished installing.
